Join us on Saturday, April 6, from 10-12 at the Lincoln library (3 Bedford Rd, Lincoln, MA) for a presentation by Rick Moberg on Understanding Bonds. The meeting will be held in the Tarbell Room, located on the second floor of the library. This presentation is designed to help you answer three questions:
- What kind of bonds might be right for you?
- How should you buy them? (Individual bonds, bond funds, or separately managed accounts)?
- How can you manage bond risks?
The presentation will touch on a variety of bond topics, including:
- The pros and cons of Treasury, corporate, municipal, mortgage-backed, and foreign bonds.
- The pros and cons of individual bonds, bond funds, and separately managed accounts.
- How bonds are priced.
- Credit risk, interest rate risk, and reinvestment risk.
- How bond duration works.
- How to use bond fund yields provided by fund companies to assess funds.
- A very brief overview of bond taxation.
- Total bond market funds.
- How to buy Treasury bills.
- Nominal versus inflation-protected bonds.
And, time permitting, Rick's personal rules for buying bonds. There will also be time for questions/answers and group discussion.
